Safer Internet Day 2016: create an app competition

06 Nov 2015 UK SIC

Are you aged 5 – 18 years old?  Do you want to create an app to support others to be safer online?

Partners in UK Safer Internet Centre, SWGfL, and the Welsh Government have launched an app competition for young people in Wales.  Launched for Safer Internet Day 2016, the app competition is open to all primary and secondary schools in Wales.

We are asking for young people to create an app that can make the internet better  – we have kept this very broad to let your ideas run wild so it could be an app that helps young people support each other, or one that inspires people to be kinder online.  We are looking for an app that is simple, with a clear idea and is easy to use.

Here’s what you need to know:

The brief

We’re looking for creative and inspiring apps that are related to online safety. Judges will be looking for innovative apps – apps that simply share important information or use smart phones or tablets to help keep others safer online. You can use any available app tools to create your app.

Who can enter?

The competition is open to all welsh schools.  Young people aged 5 – 18 years can enter across 2 categories – primary and secondary.

How do we create the app?

Creating fantastic apps is really easy and free.  You can use services like: Appshed or Appypie or Mobincube.

What’s the schedule?

  • 30 November 2015 – closing date for entries
  • 15 December 2015 – winners & runners up selected
  • January – winning apps get a professional makeover
  • 9 February 2016 – winning app launched on app store and winners awarded at Safer Internet Day event

How to enter?
