David Austin, Chief Executive, BBFC
We are proud to be long standing supporters of Safer Internet Day, an important initiative that keeps children and young people safe online. This year, for the second year running, we are partnering with the Welsh Government in their annual film competition – which is encouraging children to think about misinformation online, a topic that is particularly relevant and timely in a Covid-19 world. Every finalist will have their film classified by the BBFC – meaning that they will all receive an official BBFC age rating and famous Black Card.
Speaking directly to young people and helping them develop the skills they need to choose content well remained fundamental to our outreach work during the pandemic. Although the closure of schools and the transition to online learning affected the way in which we engaged with students, we adapted our offering to include online webinars, and pivoted our social media to target teachers and parents looking for resources. Now more than ever we need to work together to protect children online by giving them the information they need to choose content well.
