Safer Internet Day is an opportunity for us all to reflect on how we can make the online environment safer for children and young people.
This year’s focus reflects the rapid advances in technology which, whilst affording us a wealth of opportunity, are increasingly being exploited by offenders to perpetrate scams and other online harms with growing complexity.
The NCA continues to adapt to online harms. We relentlessly identify and arrest online offenders, and we support both young people and those who care for them.
Last year, for the first time, the NCA issued a nationwide alert to education settings that explained the threat of Financially Motivated Sexual Extortion (FMSE), often referred to as ‘sextortion’. Our alert increased educational professionals’ awareness of this threat, helping to improve our collective response. In 2025, the NCA will continue to work collaboratively to protect children and young people from new and emerging online harms.
Help protect children and young people online this Safer Internet Day by using the advice and resources available from UKSIC and CEOP Education websites.
