Protecting children from online harms and abuse takes all of us. It is a massive challenge for society – we really do have to work together for a better internet! Safer internet day is a brilliant opportunity to reinforce the importance of our efforts. NPCC is committed to working with our partners to help parents and trusted adults to understand the risks, to open up conversations with children and young people about child sexual abuse and exploitation online, and their own internet use. This year we have published figures which show the shocking rise in the number of crimes reported that have been committed online, or have started online. I once again urge internet platforms and companies to make their platforms safer – NPCC is working closely with our partners in law enforcement, and wider, to work through the online safety act, and we would welcome anyone who wants to join with us in this fight.
