“Girlguiding and Girlguiding’s youth panel, Advocate, support Safer Internet Day. We know being online plays a large part in our lives and what opportunities it can lead to, but improper use is discouraging many young people from using it. We believe that the internet should be a place for everybody where they feel safe, supported and can develop.
But our research shows that girls and young women don’t feel safe online. In fact, as of 2022 our figures show that 8 in 10 girls and young women aged 13-21 years old experienced online harms. This is unacceptable and we can’t allow it to continue. Laws need to be put in place to protect ourselves and others and 93% of girls and young women who participated in our research agree.”
