““This past year, we have made great strides in the global effort to create a safer online world for children. But as technology evolves, so do the threats that target young people in increasingly sophisticated ways.
“At 5Rights, we are deeply grateful to our Youth Ambassadors, whose insight and advocacy guide all our work. They continue to raise clear, urgent concerns about how new technologies, particularly AI, shape their daily lives and future. From deepfakes and scam chatbots that manipulate and deceive, to the growing threat of sextortion fueled by AI-powered nudify apps, children are being harmed by online fraud and scams at an alarming rate. Yet, their experiences are too often overlooked in discussions about their safety and they are rarely included in crafting the solutions.
“Safer Internet Day is a reminder of both the progress we’ve made and the pressing need to address these emerging threats. Children know what kind of digital world they want to live in. It’s time we listen, act, and ensure that their voices are at the heart of creating the safer, fairer internet they deserve.””
