“While the online world creates many fantastic opportunities for children to learn and connect, it also brings real-life dangers that can put them at risk.
“These risks include scams or blackmail, with the threat of private images being posted online – a crime which we know has led to some young people taking their own lives.
“It’s never been more vital to have open, honest conversations with children. It is important for them to feel confident in sharing their online experiences and getting support from a trusted adult.
“We also need to see tech companies taking action to introduce stronger safeguards and Ofcom must ensure that the Online Safety Act is implemented effectively and robustly. Â
“Safer Internet Day is a reminder of how important it is for us to work together to make the online world a safe place for our children.”
