We want children and young people to be able to be safe digital citizens who can actively participate online, and be able to identify online scams. Children and young people need the skills to be able to understand the varied motivations of people on the internet, and how to protect themselves and others. This is especially important with the rapid growth and expansion of AI, with its ability to manipulate images and generate text that seems plausible. New technologies present opportunities to learn, develop and connect, but it is paramount that young people are kept safe and protected online, including protecting their data.
This year’s theme covers a wide variety of scams, and this emphasises the importance of digital literacy for children and adults alike. The NEU is proud to support Safer Internet day and this year’s focus on how using the internet can be used to make change for the better.
