Safer Internet Day 2025: Webinar for Educators and Teachers in Scotland

07 Jan 2025 Andy Robinson

As Safer Internet Day 2025 approaches on 11 February, the Digital Youth Work Conference, hosted by YouthLink Scotland will be taking place. Aimed at youth workers, educators, and professionals working with young people in Scotland, the conference promises to equip participants with tools, insights, and strategies to better protect and guide young people in an ever-evolving digital landscape.

To support with this, we are hosting an online event for professionals working with children and young people in Scotland on Wednesday 15th January to present the Safer Internet Day resources and to find out more about the campaign.

Addressing a Growing Concern

The prominence of online scams in this year’s Safer Internet Day campaign underscores the growing sophistication and prevalence of digital threats targeting young people. Whether through phishing emails or social media scams, scammers are becoming increasingly adept at exploiting vulnerabilities.

As a result, protection from scams is a top priority for young people themselves, making this year’s theme particularly timely and relevant. Safer Internet Day 2025 seeks to not only raise awareness but also empower young people to safeguard themselves and their peers.

Scotland Webinar

The Safer Internet Day 2025 Webinar, led by online safety experts from the Education Team at Childnet, a key partner in the UK Safer Internet Centre, offers an invaluable opportunity for education professionals to explore free, official resources tailored for young people aged 3 to 18.
The session will also feature insights from Dana Henderson, a Development Officer from Edinburgh Learns Digital, who will share best practices, resources, and curriculum links specific to Scotland. Designed for teachers, school leaders, child protection leads, and cyber resilience staff, this webinar is the perfect preparation for Safer Internet Day celebrations. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the campaign and have the chance to ask questions directly to the team behind this vital initiative.

The Digital Youth Work Conference

The Digital Youth Work Conference taking place on Safer Internet Day serves as a key event and offers a platform for collaboration and learning. Hilary Phillips, the event organiser, emphasised the importance of staying ahead of digital trends:
“Technology evolves so quickly, and this event is a key place where youth workers can come together to hear what’s happening, share different approaches, and develop their practice. Partnerships across different sectors are vital to do this well.”
