Meet the 2019 Childnet Film Competition Finalists!
After reviewing entries from each country in the UK, we are delighted to announce the six finalists for the 10th annual Childnet Film Competition. The competition for the top three places was extremely difficult and we know that the panel here at Childnet had a really tough job in deciding the shortlist!
The finalists come from all around the UK and will find out where they have placed in their categories at the Finalists’ Event at the BFI in London on the 2nd July.
This is the tenth annual Childnet Film Competition, and each year we invite young people aged 7-18 to create a short film which will inspire their peers to use technology safely, responsibly and positively whilst also sharing their vision for a better and safer internet.
The competition gives young people an opportunity to take the lead in educating and empowering young people in their school, whilst also allowing them to have a further reach and have their film seen by young people across the UK.
The Childnet Film Competition is delivered as part of Childnet’s work in the UK Safer Internet Centre.
Introducing the 2019 finalists
The finalists in each category have created some really amazing films, as did so many schools and youth groups across the country who entered. These films will go live on the Childnet website from the 2nd July, and are a great way for you to educate your pupils about key online issues.
The films each look at young people’s views for a better internet, and the young people have been very creative in thinking about some key things a safer internet in the future looks like to them.
The Primary Finalists:
Belthorn Academy Primary School – Childnet Report
Bromley High Junior School – Our Future Online
Sandown Primary School – The internet belongs to me and this is how it is going to be
The Secondary Finalists:
Christleton High School – New Tools, Better Outcomes
South Hampstead High School – The Adventures of Mr Button Man
Super 8 Stage and Screen School – InterYet To Come
10 years of the Childnet Film Competition
Since we started running the Childnet Film Competition in 2009 we have seen real talent, commitment and enthusiasm from the young people who have taken part (as well as seeing amazing entries along the way!). They have shown us their passion for making the internet a positive and safe place and how young people can inspire, educate and empower their peers.
The competition has also acted as a springboard for both individual and school achievements. Schools have used their prizes of filming equipment to create new films and involving the wider school community.
Young people have also been inspired to be even more creative and some have even gone on to study film or animation at university!
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the film competition, and in the lead up to the competition day, starting on the 22nd of July we will be sharing the winning films from the last ten years on the Childnet Twitter account! Follow @Childnet to watch some of the inspirational and creative films that have taken home the gold.
