However, they may sometimes be reluctant to raise the matter themselves. That is why it is vital for parents, carers and adults working with young people to educate children and build a relationship based on openness and trust. This should include regular conversations with the child about what they are doing in their lives, both online and offline.

Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity to remind families and adults working with children of the importance of having this dialogue and coming together to ensure children can enjoy being online safely.
