“Whilst the internet continues to create powerful opportunities for young people to connect, learn and lead globally, it is also becoming more complex and, at times, more unsafe. The growth of artificial intelligence, misinformation, online exploitation and online bullying means young people are not simply using online spaces, they are growing up within them. As a result, online safety is now a fundamental part of youth wellbeing and development, and a real concern for young people, parents, carers and educators alike.
Safer Internet Day 2026 is vital because it places young people’s voices at the centre, recognising them not just as users of online spaces but as partners in shaping safer, kinder digital communities.
At The Diana Award, we remain committed to equipping young people with the confidence, critical thinking and leadership skills needed to navigate online spaces safely and positively. Across our programmes, we empower young people to recognise risk, challenge harmful behaviour and support the wellbeing of their peers, helping them to thrive both online and offline.”
