Safer Internet Day in schools: best practice
Each year hundreds of schools from across the country run activities in support of Safer Internet Day.
At the UK Safer Internet Centre we produce educational resources to help schools plan these activities and encourage schools to share with us what they have planned. In our last blog for schools we shared some ideas about how to get involved; now we want to share some inspiring ideas from schools across the UK.
So far, 87 schools have registered and shared with us how they will be highlighting the positive and creative uses of technology whilst empowering pupils, families and staff to stay safe online. Here are some fantastic examples:
Ballycare High School
At Ballyclare High, we will be marking Safer Internet Day with a series of events including assemblies, linking with the local primary schools and launching our pupil e-safety committee.
Clacton Costal Academy
Clacton Costal Academy will be studying activities for the entire week in tutor time, holding facebook clinics, parent drop in, student stall, creating a safety film and using curriculum time to focus on safety.
Deepdale Infant School
At Deepdale Infant School children will be involved in internet safety activities all week and we are running a family competition to involve the whole community.
Pool Academy
Pool Academy will be having assemblies all week and unfiltering facebook, twitter & snapchat for just 1 day! Students & teachers will be competing in a number of online games as we all learn to stay safe online!
St John Fisher Catholic High School
This year, pupils at St John Fisher Catholic High School will have an assembly led by their peers, contribute to the ‘how to make the Internet at SJF better’ blog and will also do some cross curricular activities in other subject areas.
