SWGfL announced as winner at the Charity Awards 2023
This week our partners at SWGfL took home the top prize in the Education & Training category at this year’s Charity Awards.
Together with the other nine category champions, SWGfL was presented with a trophy during an elegant black-tie event held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. The ceremony was hosted by renowned broadcaster, commentator, and writer Ayesha Hazarika.
The selection process for the Charity Awards shortlist involves an impartial panel of esteemed judges who are prominent figures in the charity sector. These judges assess each entry based on six Hallmarks of Excellence. Subsequently, they convene for two days of rigorous deliberation and dialogue to determine the deserving winners.
Matt Nolan, chief executive of Civil Society Media (organisers of the Charity Awards) congratulated SWGfL on winning the highly-coveted award. He said:
“Against the backdrop of a devastating pandemic followed closely by an eye-watering cost-of-living crisis, the external environment has seldom been more challenging for UK charities. Yet the standard of entries in this year’s Charity Awards proves that the sector is as resilient, tenacious and effective as it has ever been. To win an award is a real badge of honour, and the team at South West Grid for Learning should be truly proud of their achievements.”
Peter Hugh Smith, chief executive at Overall Awards Partner CCLA, said:
“Given everything that charities have been through over the last few years, it is vitally important that we continue to promote their endeavours and celebrate excellence in charity management and leadership. This is why CCLA is proud to be the Charity Awards’ Overall Partner again this year – so we can play our part in highlighting the fantastic work of charities large and small, right across the UK.
All the category winners have demonstrated the highest standards and are truly leaders in their fields. South West Grid for Learning’s award is richly deserved and I offer huge congratulations to their team.”
David Wright, Chief Executive at SWGfL, said:
‘’To be recognised for this prestigious award is a milestone moment for this charity’s rich history. From our humble beginnings of supplying all schools in the South West with safer internet connections to now providing global solutions to fight online harm, we will continue to ensure that everyone can benefit from technology free from harm. We’d like to thank the Charity Awards for this wonderful recognition and extend our praise towards all other category winners who do amazing and inspiring work for the charitable sector.’’
