Be the change for Safer Internet Day 2017
It’s Safer Internet Day tomorrow and we are so excited about the huge range of activities that will be taking place up and down the country.
This Safer Internet Day we want to empower children to have a positive time online and inspire everyone to ‘Be the change’ and use the positive power of image to help create a better internet.
To do this we invite all of you to join with us to be the change!
You can do this by:
- Having a conversation with your family, friends and colleagues about creating a better internet. Have a look at our tips and advice pages for young people as well as for parents and carers
- Joining our #giveasmile social media campaign to help make the internet smile in a range of fun and creative ways!
- Taking part in our internet safety emoji charades by spelling out your top e-safety tip using only emojis and sending it out to your followers
- Using our films, resources and activities to help you get your whole community involved
What we will be doing to mark the day
The UK Safer Internet Centre will be holding youth events across the country to showcase how we can all ‘be the change’ and unite to help create a better internet.
The national youth event in London will be attended by Ministers and over 100 key policymakers where they will hear directly from young people about how images and videos play a key role in their lives and the influence of this on their self-esteem, beliefs and behaviours.
The event will also see the launch of the UK Safer Internet Centre’s youth research that reveals how important images and videos are to young people’s digital lives, demonstrating the positive role this plays as well as the risks and pressures they may face as a result.
There will be live tweeting from the event from our Twitter account @UK_SIC so make sure to follow us!
There will also be events across the UK with Ministerial and youth involvement showcasing images created as part of our youth photo campaign.
