Online Compass nominated for an ISPA Award

29 May 2013 UK SIC

Our self-review esafety web-tool Online Compass has also been shortlisted for an ISPA (Internet Services Providers’ Association) 2013 award in the ‘Internet Safety and Security category’.

Online Compass is a free, online tool which allows an organisation that works with young people to self-assess its esafety provision. It focuses on three particular areas – management, people and technology and asks you questions to help you determine your current position. It then identifies weak areas and creates a list of improvement actions you can follow. Each particular aspect of esafety is accompanied by policy templates and resource links.

Online Compass also generates benchmarking reports which help an organisation to see how it compares to other organisations in general or other organisations of a similar type or size. The impact assessment survey is a unique additional feature of the tool, which allows an organisation to generate short surveys to be sent to parents, staff or children in the setting to determine how safe they feel accessing the internet.
The tool was originally developed with funding from the Safer Internet Programme of the European Commission.

Online Compass resource has been shortlisted alongside the Internet Watch Foundation; both organisations are part of the UK Safer Internet Centre. The ISPA Awards are run by the Internet Services Providers’ Association and this will be their 15th year, making the awards the UK’s longest running internet industry awards. The awards ceremony will be on 11th July 2013 in London and full information about the awards can be found at
