The UK Safer Internet Centre has launched top tips and advice pages tailor made to cover the issue of online reliability and misinformation for Safer Internet Day 2021.

Safer Internet Day 2021 is being celebrated around the world on Tuesday 9th February 2021.The global theme is ‘together for a better internet’ and this year in the UK we are putting the focus on how young people can tell fact from fiction, and work together to create an internet we trust.

We have created a range of top tips and suggestions to help you get involved in Safer Internet day and to start a conversation about staying safe and positive online.

The top tips for 3-7 year olds are designed for parents and carers to hare with their young children. It’s never too early to start a conversation about life online, and these top tips centre around the who, what and why’s of misinformation online.

The top tips for 7-11s look at sensible choices online, looking at how to check information and stay safe online.

The top tips for 11-18s look at ways young people can spot fact from fiction online, whether that is by questioning the source and the ways you can tell if information online is too good to be true.

Our top tips for parents and carers give advice and guidance on how to support children and young people online.

These tips are a great way to ensure that parents and carers are supporting their children and giving them the tools to stay safe and positive online. They highlight ways to have a conversation, take a balanced approach and to make use of the tools available.
