On 22nd October partners in the UK Safer Internet Centre, Childnet, launched a report to celebrate 20 years working in partnership with others around the world to help make the internet a great and safe place for childrena and young people.

One of the key values that has underpinned Childnet’s work to help them achieve their mission is maintaining a collaborative approach.  By working in partnerships with various stakeholders Childnet have created initiatives and services that have helped bring about positive change.  The partnership between Childnet, the Internet Watch Foundation and the South West Grid for Learning as the UK Safer Internet Centre shows what can be achieved by working collaboratively.

Together the UK Safer Internet Centre deliver a wide range of activities to promote the safe and responsible use of technology.  Childnet’s role, together with the SWGfL, is to fulfil the role of the Awareness Centre.   This involves developing new educational and awareness raising resources for children, parents and carers and teachers.  It also involves coordinating Safer Internet Day in the UK.

In 2011 the UK Safer Internet Centre coordinated the first Safer Internet Day in the UK.  The day offers the opportunity to highlight positive uses of technology and to explore the role we all play in helping to create a better and safer online community. It calls upon young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement, companies, policymakers, and wider, to join together in helping to create a better internet.  Last year over 850 organisations joined together to support Safer Internet Day, helping to reach a quarter of young people in the UK and showing what can be achieved by working together.
