Safer Internet Day 2020 Educational resources for Parents and Carers
Safer Internet Day 2020 will be celebrated globally on Tuesday 11th February 2020, and in the UK we are focussing on the theme of online identity.
For Safer Internet Day 2020, the UK Safer Internet Centre has created educational resources for young people aged 3-18 years old. In this blog we will be taking a closer look at the resources which have been tailor made for parents to engage with their child about online issues.
Why we have created this pack
Many parents we speak to say that they sometimes find it difficult to start a conversation with children about their online lives. That’s why we have put together a helpful parents and carers pack which include conversation starters, fun activities to do as a family, and where to go for more information and support.
Safer Internet Day Pack for Parents and Carers
The pack for parents and carers has been designed to support the messages young people will be receiving in schools, youth clubs, libraries and wider, the aim of this pack is to allow parents and carers to get involved with Safer Internet Day 2020.
The packs can be sent out to parents and carers to help them understand and support the day, or it can be accessed directly by parents and carers who are seeking ways they can get involved and support their child.
This pack is focused on providing parents and carers with practical activities, conversation starters and information to help them support young people navigate the issue of online identity in a safe, responsible and respectful way.
What is included in the pack?
Included within the pack is a set of conversation starters covering the issues of online identity, safety, sharing, and how to look after yourself and others online. The pack also includes a family internet safety plan to encourage families to work together to help keep each other safe online.
