UKSIC responds to Reform of the National Curriculum Consultation
The UK Safer Internet Centre has responded to the government consultation on the Reform of the National Curriculum in England.
UKSIC’s response aimed to encourage sufficient attention and rigour are given to e-safety aspects, and the centre detailed that it is important that digital literacy and citizenship should be taught more widely across the curriculum, outside of ‘computing’ alone and that opportunities for digital literacy to be included should be identified across subjects and age groups. We emphasised the centre’s belief that online safety should be included throughout the whole curriculum – from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 4, providing an opportunity for all children, to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of responsible online behaviour.
The UKSIC believes that it is of utmost importance that the national curriculum includes key messages related to e-safety and in sufficient detail to ensure that schools and teachers consulting the document are able to provide a rigorous and consistent education programme in this area.
