The Marie Collins Foundation are honoured to support this year’s Safer Internet Day ‘Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online’. With fake adverts, posts, profiles, messages, pictures, and videos looking so realistic it can be incredibly hard to spot what is true and what isn’t. The UK safer internet centre’s consultation with children and young people to focus on this issue is so timely. Advancements in technology such as AI can make it even more difficult to work out what’s real, and we have seen first-hand the significant harm this has caused children and young people. Online misinformation to deliberate online scams used to manipulate others should be a rare occurrence rather than a common experience.
