SAFER INTERNET DAY – 9 FEBRUARY 2027
Reflect on tech: exploring digital wellbeing and our relationship with technology
About the theme for 2027
Safer Internet Day 2027 will take place on the 9th of February 2027, with celebrations and learning in the UK based around the theme ‘Reflect on tech: exploring digital wellbeing and our relationship with technology’.
In the 20 years since the first Safer Internet Day in the UK, concerns about the impact of the internet and technology on children’s wellbeing have never been higher. This year, Safer Internet Day falls in the important months leading up to the implementation of Government restrictions, including a ban on social media accounts for under 16s.
At this pivotal moment, we are challenging everyone, from government, to families, to the internet industry to reflect on tech.
This could include reflecting on:
- the role technology plays in our day to day lives, and what a healthy relationship with technology looks like.
- how technology and going online impacts our mood and wellbeing, including the pressures and influences we may experience online.
- how families and young people can navigate their changing relationship with technology and can build strategies to make the most of their time online.
Safer Internet Day is a time for insight, reflection and to make sure that young people’s voices are heard in the conversations that most impact them. Happening just before the implementation of new restrictions, this Safer Internet Day provides key opportunities for conversation and education about young people’s use of all technology, including social media.
This Safer Internet Day, we are asking everyone to reflect on tech. By exploring digital wellbeing and our relationship with technology, we believe that we can take important steps towards building a safer and better internet for everyone.
About Safer Internet Day
Over the years, Safer Internet Day has become a landmark event in the online safety calendar. Starting as an initiative of the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and taken up by the Insafe network as one of its earliest actions in 2005, Safer Internet Day has grown beyond its traditional geographic zone and is now celebrated in approximately 170 countries worldwide.
Under a global theme of ‘Together for a better internet‘, the UK Safer Internet Centre is responsible for coordinating Safer Internet Day actions in the UK. Each year, the celebration sees thousands of organisations get involved to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.

From cyberbullying to social networking to digital identity, each year Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues and current concerns.
