Pupil powered e-safety

At the UK Safer Internet Centre, youth voice is an essential part of our work. We ensure children and young people have a say and play a key role in helping to create a better internet.

Safer Internet Day 2016 Number 10 Downing StreetLed by UKSIC partner Childnet, we ensure that children and young people have a say about the digital issues that affect them by:

  • Giving children and young people opportunities to share their views with policymakers from across government, industry, police and wider - whether that's speaking with the Prime Minister's special adviser at 10 Downing Street or taking part in national and international events.
  • Holding youth consultations and focus groups to explore key issues and shape our work.

Safer Internet Day 2015 Young people film each other for the #Up2Us FilmWe ensure that children and young people play a key role in helping to create a better internet:

  • Training children and young people to be peer educators and role models in their school communities through our Childnet Digital Leaders Programme.
  • Giving children and young people opportunities to inspire their peers - for example, 150 young people from across the UK took part in filming the #up2us film for Safer Internet Day 2015, which was viewed over 16,000 times on Safer Internet Day.
  • Empowering children and young people to use technology creatively to make a difference and inspire their peers, including through our Childnet Film Competition.
