ISPA Awards 2016: UK Safer Internet Centre make shortlist!

03 May 2016 UK SIC

Safer Internet Day 2016 has been shortlisted within the Safety category of this year’s ISPA’s.

We are delighted to announce that the UK Safer Internet Centre has been shortlisted for this year’s ISPA Awards along with UK Safer Internet Centre partners, the Internet Watch Foundation

The UK Safer Internet Centre have been shortlisted for making Safer Internet Day 2016 the UK’s biggest collaboration to make the internet a safer place for children and young people by mobilising over 1100 organisations to take part!  Key partner activities included: BBC programming content across a range of stations including CBBC and Radio 1; the four ISPs promoting to their customers; Snapchat creating a SID2016 GEO filter; Vodafone and Google organising events for schoolchildren and football clubs such as Crystal Palace FC, Liverpool FC and Everton FC running SID events and promoting the day on social media.

This year we used Safer Internet Day to inspire a kind, respectful and inclusive internet, and help raise awareness about the issue of online hate.  To help teachers address these issues we produced education packs and created 12 films – the educational resources were downloaded 316,000 times and the SIDTV films had 240,000 views.

Our media campaign also meant that SID had a huge reach – both online and offline.  #SID2016 trend all day in the UK and there were 74K tweets about Safer Internet Day with 1.7 million impressions and on Facebook our posts reached 1.2 million people!

We’re proud that the work of everyone who helped make Safer Internet Day so successful is being celebrate by the ISPA Awards.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on the 7th July 2016.
