Only Four Weeks to Go Until Safer Internet Day 2026

13 Jan 2026 UK SIC

With just four weeks to go until Safer Internet Day 2026 on Tuesday 10 February, the countdown is well and truly on. This year’s theme, “Smart tech, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI,” could not be more timely. Artificial intelligence is now part of everyday life for children, young people, families, schools and organisations, bringing huge opportunities and we want to ensure that young people have the skills and confidence to make safe choices when they are using smart technology.

Over the past few weeks, the conversation around AI has grown rapidly. From generative tools used for learning and creativity, to increasing reports around AI being used for harm, people of all ages are encountering AI more often than they may realise. Safer Internet Day 2026 offers a valuable opportunity to pause, reflect and support everyone to make informed, responsible choices when using AI.

Four weeks to get involved

Whether you are a school, charity, business or community group, there is still plenty of time to get involved and make Safer Internet Day meaningful for your audience. Even small actions can have a big impact when they spark conversations and build confidence around online safety.
If you haven’t already, registering your support is the best place to start. Registration is free and simple, and ensures your organisation is officially part of the national Safer Internet Day celebration. By signing up, you will appear on the supporters map, be able to share your plans with thousands of other organisations and help amplify key messages about staying safe online.

Supporting conversations at home: Letters for parents and carers now available

To help extend Safer Internet Day beyond the classroom, template letters for parents and carers are also available. Schools can easily tailor these letters to share key information about Safer Internet Day 2026, explain the focus on AI and online safety, and encourage families to continue conversations at home.

These letters are a simple but effective way to engage parents and carers, build shared understanding, and reinforce safer online behaviours beyond the school day.

Support learning with tips and quizzes

Safer Internet Day doesn’t have to be limited to one lesson or event. There are top tips for young people, as well as parents and carers, alongside interactive quizzes for learners aged 7–11 and 11–14, provide practical and engaging ways to reinforce key messages.

These resources are ideal for classrooms, clubs and home use, helping to spark discussion, test understanding and build confidence around safe and responsible technology use.

Time to get involved

Over the next four weeks, consider what simple activity could work best for your community. This could be an assembly on digital wellbeing, lessons exploring how AI tools work, or a session for parents focused on navigating online safety with confidence.

Once registered, remember to share your involvement on your website and social media, use #SaferInternetDay, and encourage partners and networks to take part too.

With only four weeks to go, now is the moment to turn plans into action. Together, we can ensure Safer Internet Day 2026 empowers people of all ages to make smart tech choices and use AI safely, responsibly and confidently.
