What can you do this Safer Internet Day?
#ItStartsWithUs this Safer Internet Day
For Safer Internet Day the UK Safer Internet Centre invited everyone to play their part in making the internet a better place.
Celebrated globally and coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre, Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity to talk to your family and friends about the safe, responsible and positive use of technology, and to pledge how you will help to create a kinder online community.
Across the day, a range of exciting activities took place, from youth events and celebrity support, to our #ItStartsWithUs social media campaign, while over 1,000 organisations across the UK got involved in supporting the day, with schools and youth groups using our Education Packs and SID TV films to engage children, young people, parents and carers.
How to get involved:
A better internet starts with us
Will Gardner, Director of the UK Safer Internet Centre, CEO of Childnet
“This Safer Internet Day the global theme is ‘Create, Connect and Share Respect: a better internet starts with you’.
We know that Safer Internet Day can have a hugely positive impact. As a result of the collective action last year we reached 42% of UK children and 23% of UK parents, with the majority going on to speak their families about staying safe online and feeling more confident about what to do about any worries online.
Together this Safer Internet Day we can make a real difference to the digital lives of children right across the UK.
The Safer Internet Day theme this year sums it up – it starts with everyone one of us to help make the internet a better place, from schools, parents and carers, to the internet industry, government, charities, policymakers, and children and young people themselves. We all have a role to play.
Join with us this Safer Internet Day and pledge how you will play your part.”
